![]() ![]() It was received poorly however, mostly because players didn't like the idea of needing to level up classes they didn't like to play just to gain access to abilities needed to perform their roles. XIV 1.0 aimed to expand on this concept by allowing you to level up multiple classes, and set abilities from any of them freely on your hotbar, to sort of make your own unique class. In FFXI, you could level up a job to max level, and then level up another job, and set it as your "subjob" which would grant you access to everything that job had to offer, but it's level would be half of your main job level. The original class system was an evolution of the subjob system from FFXI. Most of the concepts in 1.0 were derivative from concepts in FFXI. The original director of FFXIV before yoshi-p took over was also the director of FFXI at the time.
